Red Delicious apples are a misnomer.
The color is the only accurate portion of the food’s descriptive name. But even the red skin that encases the tasteless, mealy interior is tough and bitter.
Apparently, the current culinary catastrophe has fallen far from the original version, which was described as a “fruit of surpassing sweetness.”
I’m not the first to comment on the ironic nomenclature of the Red Delicious.
But they are still producing and selling them.
The reason they taste like soggy Rolaids (minus the taste) is because producers couldn’t leave well enough alone.
Lesson learned: the more we humans mess with nature, the more we tend to mess it up. Remember Dolly, the sheep? Now, scientists are trying to create “three-person embryos” through mitochondrial donation.
Are you kidding me!?
Aside from the obvious potential for parental rights disasters, what is the point of this?
My advice: stop playing with fire, people, because you will get burned. Or you’ll end up with the “red delicious” of babies. I don’t say that lightly. These trends are disturbing and point out a consistent problem: the feelings, emotions, and desires of adults have for too long outweighed the rights and needs of children.
Thus, we live in an age where abortion is heralded as an advancement of women’s rights, and, paradoxically, anyone who wants a child can participate in surrogacy, in vitro fertilization, etc. to create one.
Every child has — and deserves to know — a mother and a father. Why are we messing with that?
